Come for Crop Over!
|
|
The sweetest summer festival gets off to a blazing start on June 8th, with the First Citizens Crop Over Launch and Ceremonial Delivery of the Last Canes. Dubbed ‘Journey to the Last Cane’, the festival will launch with a spectacular display of Barbadian culture in the historic port city of Speightstown, beginning with a ritual to raise the ‘spirits’ of the Festival, and a cultural parade recognizing ‘the people who came’. The quaint northern town will come alive with the vibrant sounds of folk and soca music, celebrating the delivery of the last canes for the sugar crop, which is a 200-year old tradition, and signalling the beginning of eight weeks of festivities. This summer, we invite travelers seeking an authentic Barbadian experience, to come and live like a local while experiencing the rich culture of the island.
